The summer concert season is in full swing and we’re about to approach a huge stretch over the next 10 or so days, with Wayhome looking to repeat its massive success from a year ago and the big August long weekend with Veld and OVO Fest. Although I highly recommend attending either of these festivals, I’m going to shift the focus to OVO Fest and give you guys a quick musical breakdown of who’s playing and what you should be listening to.
Drake announced the lineup a while back via Twitter and the festival comes at a busy time for the Forest Hill native. The Summer Sixteen tour officially kicked off on Wednesday and the festivities will commence with the OVO Bounce basketball event. The musical acts start up the following day, with a little more ambiguity this year in terms of the artists performing. For now, we know that Drake will host Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg as they continue their tour before bringing his own Summer Sixteen tour on Aug 1, with special guest Future also on the bill. There’s a lot of speculation over who Drake will bring in this year, an always exciting task given the big name artists he’s managed to bring in over the years. Roy Woods and DVSN are opening for Drake’s Summer Sixteen tour, so there’s a good bet that they could make an appearance. DVSN would be an especially huge addition to the ballot and I have made it no secret about how I feel towards the group, especially producer Nineteen85. Below, I have put together a quick and easy musical guide to OVO Fest 2016 with 10 song playlists for all the artists that I think will perform. If you’re interested in learning more, dive into some of the essential OVO Sound Radio episodes to get a great foundation on what the festival and its music is all about. So plug in your headphones and enjoy some good music!
